as giddy as a school boy

(please excuse the scrapbook an toy mess in the back ground)

Well we finally got an HD DVR to match the TV and had the Digis (our sat. provider) guy come and hook it up yesterday. Devin is very excited, to say the least. Here he is, trying to figure out how it all works and set it up to his liking. I just could not resist taking a picture. But hey, who wouldn't be excited to watch hockey in 1080p on a 46" LCD?!

And the sicknesses continue...

Wednesday morning we were all rudely awakened by a guy that decided he needed to clear the sidewalks at 5:30 in the morning on his very loud four wheeler. I was soooo mad. Does he not realize that there are a lot of little kids in these buildings? Who in their right mind comes that early on a 4 wheeler and revs it up back and fourth at 5:30? Anyways, I was hoping he did not wake Mathias up. Sure enough, Mathias wakes up screaming at 6:30. He usually sleeps till 7:30 or 8. Then, for the rest of the morning, we could not get him to calm down. I thought it was because he was rudely awakened and was still tired. So Dev dropped him off at Annette's (Dev's mom) like usual and we thought nothing more of it. Well, Annette called around noon and said Mathias is acting pretty sick and had not left her lap all morning, nor could she get him to eat or drink anything. Great, I thought we were over the stomach bug. Then Annette also said that Mathias was tugging at his right ear. Mathias is one of those poor kids that if there is anything out there to catch he will catch it no matter what. But fortunately we have never had an ear infection. So I took off work a little early to take him to the doctor and sure enough he has a "moderate" ear infection in his right ear and a "very small one" in his left. As if the cold he got a couple of weekends ago and the stomach bug he caught last Friday were not enough. The doctor gave us some antibiotics to give him twice a day. Did I mention that Mathias is not good at taking medicine? So we usually pin him down and put the syringe in the back of his mouth so it will go down better, however this syringe is twice the size of the Motrin ones we have. So yeah, needless to say this has been fun.

Locked up

Today while I was chatting online with Devin for a few minutes, I heard a door knob being turned, as if Mathias was trying to open a door. I did not think twice about and figured he was just getting some book out or something, since that is usually the only door he plays with unless he is in a room with us. After a few moments of hearing him try to turn the door knob I hear him fussing, so I got up to see where he was. He was not out in the hallway were the book/linen closet was so I checked our bedroom and his bedroom and still did not see him. I then opened up the linen closet and sure enough he had shut himself inside of it. I am not sure why or even how he got himself in that position but I laughed out loud and grabbed the camera when I figured out that he was in there.

Sick Again

When Mathias was just three weeks old he got Bronchiolitis. Every winter, all winter long, since then we have battled with it. Last winter we were on a nebulizer all winter long and into the spring with two different medicines every couple of hours. The doctor told us it is kind-of asthma related and that he will most likely grow out of it, hopefully by the time he is three. This winter has been so much better than the last. Last winter he got sick and stayed sick pretty much at the first sight of winter and all winter long. We rented the nebulizer for so long that we actually own it now. Anyway, this winter we were feeling pretty good. We had made it through the holidays without a cold and a trip to the doctor's office. He did, however, finally get sick about a week and a half ago and of course it went straight to his lungs. I was not about to start our regular trips to the doctors again. I figure I have been through this enough that I know exactly what they are going to tell me. So this time we put him back on his breathing treatments (we had some left over from last time) and at one point physically held him down to pour water in his mouth (last year we ended up staying two night in the hospital due to dehydration) and I guess it worked. After about a week of the cold it seemed he was getting better.

On Friday night, right after I put him to bed at 7:00, my mom called to see how he was doing. I told her he was doing much better, getting his appetite back, and drinking a little more. Not two hours later did Mathias wake up crying. I don't know how but I knew that he had thrown up. I guess that is what I get for saying he was doing better. Sure enough, I go in there to find it all over him and his bed. Poor guy! So I took him out and quickly gave him a bath and wrapped him up in a towel while I went to strip his bed and throw a load in the washer. Poor guy did not move an inch after I laid him down. He continued to throw up every couple of hours throughout the night and into the morning. He could not even keep water down. Now that worried me. However, about half way through the day he was acting fine again, just a little more snuggly than usual, which I can not complain about. We're guessing something he ate didn't agree with his stomach since it came and left so fast. By Sunday evening he was pounding down the pizza slices, totally back to normal!

(poor little guy looks so sick, still has his "bebo" though)

Can you tell daddy changed his jammies after one of the incidences?

(In my defense, the matching bottoms where already dirty and there's no sense in putting a perfectly clean shirt in the laundry just so he matches! It's not like he was going out on the town or anything...)

book worm

Mathias has become quite the little book worm lately. He will bring us book after book for us to read while he tells a bit of the story himself.

The very first door Mathias ever opened on his own at our place was the closet that had all of his books in it.
Here he is carefully deciding which books he wants to get down. As you can see he already has a bunch on the floor.

And now to decide how many and which ones he really wants us to read. Oh the choices....

This one is a favorite. It is called "Sounds on the Go" and it has all of the vehicle sounds that go with it. He is pushing the buttons in this page.

I just love how he is studying this page. This is actually one of his favorite pages in this book because it has all of the vehicles on it and a dog; what more could you ask for?

Now, for the list of our most current books that we read ALL THE TIME in no particular order :

"Sounds on the Go" by Gail Donovan
"Dizzy Dragon" by Jo Rigg & Simon Mugford (we've read this one so many times both Dev and I can recite it from memory!)
"Disney's Cars : Tales from the Track"
"Curly's Friends" by Usborn Books
"Elmo So Big!" by Anna Jane Hays
"My First Book of Picture Family Times"
"I love You Through and Through" by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak
"Sheep in a Jeep" by Nancy Shaw (Devin's favorite to read)

If you know of any must-haves, let us know!

Jeeps!

Mathias got three jeeps for Christmas. These two came as a pair, and he also got a radio controlled one. These have been among the favorite toys he got for Christmas and plays with them just about daily. Very fitting for our family! Also I don't know if you can see it very well in those pictures but Mema (Ness's mom) got him the blue pj's with jeeps all over them and they say "4x4" and "off road" and "4 wheeling" and such on them. They are so stinking cute, I love 'em.

No No, Kitty

Izzy showed us her new favorite spot yesterday. I was laughing when I saw her up there, but I was the only one that thought it was funny as Dev and Mathias where telling her "no no, kitty!"

Dad

Mathias is such a daddy's boy, he loves him so much. It is fun to watch him when Devin gets home from work, he runs right up to him. He wants to be just like his daddy!

A couple of days ago when Dev was at work Mathias put on Dev's shoes and his hat. I thought it was pretty cute.

Brower Look-alike Meter

I have seen this on a few friends blogs and decided to give it a try. I am kinda surprised with the results, actually. Since Mathias was born, everyone has told us that he looks just like his daddy, however my mother-in-law has said recently that she can see some of me in him. What do you think?

Happy birthday ....early!

Mom went up to the outlets in Park City today to get herself some new business suits for her new job (she starts tomorrow; go mom, you'll do awesome!) and picked up a few things for Mathias. Well, not a few things... a whole new wardrobe, really. It felt like Christmas all over again! We can not tell her enough, seriously, how much we appreciate her and all that she does to help us out! We could not do without her! Best. Mom. Ever.

Mom...

As we were getting ready this morning, Mathias handed me one of my shirts and looked at me as if he wanted me to put it on him. So I did, then he ran to the office and tried to play with the computer. Do you think he is trying to tell me something?

Party

This Saturday we threw a little going away party for our friends Chris and Jana, and their two kids, Gabbi and Jack. They are moving to Kansas City, Missouri, this week to go to dental school. We are really going to miss them and wish we saw them more often while they where here.

Gabbi turned two on Friday, so we had cake and ice cream at the party as well. She is exactly one month older than Mathias. I can not believe they are getting to be two already, I am in complete denial. Our babies are growing up way too fast!

New Years Eve

Devin's brother-in-law and sister invited us to their party for New Year's. There were a ton of people there from their ward, as well as family. We had so much fun just talking and eating and playing games.

While the kids played games and watched movies, the adults played a game as well. We got Scott and Melanie VH1's "I Love the 80's" board game for Christmas. It totally reminded me of Melanie when I saw it so I had to get it for them. It is part Trivial Pursuit, part Pictionary, part Cranium. You have to answer a question or sing or act or draw each turn. Even if you were around in the 80's this game is pretty tough, but we had a good time.

Our nephew, Mitchell, got the stacking cup game
for Christmas and brought it over for all to play. I think I know what to get Devin for Christmas next year, apparently it was pretty addicting.

Kevin rigged up a pinata for the kids. After watching all the other kids and daddy showing him him once, he was ready to try. He loved it and thought it was great fun, laughing the whole time.

I know you all are sick of hearing it, but I can not believe how fast my little guy is growing up!He did pretty well at it and as you can see by the big smile on his face he really enjoyed it.

Can you tell it is bed time? Mathias did so well, considering that when it is his bedtime (7:00) he usually asks to go to bed. There was so much going on that he was ok with staying up. We put him to bed at about 9:30 and he slept in the next morning until 10:00. Also, when everyone was screaming the count down and blowing all the kazoos and noise makers and stomping their feet, he slept threw it all in the bedroom directly underneath everyone!. I was so amazed. That's my boy though, always amazing me.

Here is most everyone gathered around the goody table just moments before the count down to the new year. There were so many delicious treats,we couldn't get enough.

It would not be a party at the DeGooyer's house unless it had fireworks, so this is how we kicked off the new year. Thanks for having us over guys, we had a blast!

Christmas 2007

Christmas this year was great. Mom came over and had Christmas with us, then we all went over to Devin's parent's. It was a little weird without Dustin here, last week he moved to Virginia to be with his dad. This was our first Christmas with out him, and we missed him.

Christmas was more enjoyable for Mathias this year. Last year he was sick and was only interested in the wrapping paper. He very quickly realized there are things inside the wrapping paper this year. He made a pretty good haul and mom reminded us that we need to have another baby so Mathias is not so spoiled. She tells us she is ready for another grand baby frequently, now that Mathias is almost two. His Christmas was pretty well a themed one, filled with trains, planes, and automobiles. Above is a slide show of pics since there were just too many to choose from. Enjoy.
