Toddler Talk

Isn't this just a great picture!

We have not learned too many new words this week. However, Mathias will try to repeat most words you say. The new words this week are:
gacker = cracker
haw-e = Holly (his cousin)
eye= He will say this while pointing to his eye
bir = bird
dow = down
good guy = we think this means good bye.
ank oo(or something like it) = thank you
pea= please
I am sure there are more, it is just too late to think!
Although, on a side note, he has learned to give rocks this week, you know where you hit your fist with someone else's. He is also learning "all done" in sign language as well as "thank you"!

Summer time

Yummy watermelon!
We have been cutting up all of his fruit then we decided to see what he would do with a whole piece. He thought it was a little weird at first but then loved it, if you can't tell by all that juice dripping down his stomach!
mmmm tasty
One of my favorite things about summer is all the fresh fruit, looks like that is also a favorite of Mathias.

Giddy up!

I wanna be a cowboy baby...
I thought this was the perfect picture, he's got that cowboy stance down!
Check out that grin!
This has been Mathias' favorite thing lately. I swear he always has it on and when he doesn't he is putting it on your head. What a cute cowboy!

Toddler Talk

Mathias has finally learned some new words over the last couple of weeks.

wuf wuf = what a dog says
gak gak = what a duck says.
nigh nigh = night night
buhbye
baby
ball
bippy = sippy
hi & hey
nononono
go
kitty
beow = meow
p.u. = as in stinky (he says this while plugging his nose)
Grandma Brower swears he says "grandpa" but we haven't confirmed

Once and only once he said "hey buddy". He repeated it after I said it to one of his little friends.

This is not really talking but he has been learning some sign language too. Actually, he has known for a while but just this week he put two of them together. He now does "more" and "please" together. On a side note, if we tell him "no" to something, he will sign "please." What a smart little bugger, how can you say no to that!

What a flirt

Last weekend, my cousin Austin got married and they had a DJ at their reception. Well, Mathias loves to be the life of the party so he went up to explore all of the equipment (which included a bubble blowing machine) and as soon as they turned their music on he started dancing. He did so for a good hour when his cousin Sarah (20 months old) came to join him. They danced and flirted for a bit, which would have been even cuter if they were not cousins!

Mathias taking a sneak peak.

After a long night of dancing they decided to take a break.

This is actually a pretty funny picture. At first we put Mathias' arm around Sarah and laughed, and after realizing that it got him attention he would remove his arm then slyly put it back with a cheesy grin on his face.

All boy !

I am amazed every day how quickly he learns. This toy's batteries were running low so I got out the screwdriver to change them. After watching me do that, Mathias took the screwdriver to every screw on this toy and a few others. I thought that was pretty smart!

Hmmm, what can I find to eat?

Just like every other boy, I swear he is always eating. Anytime we open the fridge he has to peak his little head in to see if he wants anything.

What channel is ESPN again?!

I love this picture! As soon as Mathias got out of his bath, he ran to the couch and grabbed the remote, pointed it at the TV and started pushing the buttons. I just realized that while this is very cute, it is kinda scary at the same time because it could be a clue that the TV is on way too much. Oops!

Mathias gets a 'style'

Although Mathias has had two previous haircuts, he finally got a "style." His hair had gotten very shaggy and we just couldn't decide if we liked the shag look or wanted something different.

I had heard about Cookie Cutters from one of my local TV shows, Good Things Utah. They specialize in giving toddlers haircuts by using airplanes and cars as booths, having movies and TV shows playing, and pretty much everything else to distract them from the scary clippers and trimmers. I figured since it wasn't much more in price than a haircut anywhere else, I'd give it a shot.

Mathias was scared to death, screaming and crying despite the distractions. But his stylist kept on clipping away, not missing a beat. Surprisingly, it came out very well. After she clipped it, we discussed 'styling' his hair. I didn't know what I wanted, so she put some pomade in there and whipped up the mohawk that is rapidly coming back in style. My little boy isn't little anymore!

He looks so grown up! But dang does he look awesome, we have to fight off the girls with sticks. Even older girls are after him, we caught him flirting with a 2-year old at church last week!

24th of July

In Utah, the 24th of July is a holiday to celebrate the statehood of Utah and its pioneer history. But it doesn't matter, all we care about is that we get an extra day off of work!

As usual, Kevin had run to Evanston to pick up a butt load of illegal fireworks. But due to the dry, hot weather we've been having, the whole state was on high alert for fire danger and we decided it wouldn't be a good idea to light the good stuff off. But we still got together and his house to have some food and enjoy each other's company.

And of course, Mathias enjoyed his food with little regards to his food, face, and clothing.

In the end, we didn't even bother shooting off any fireworks at all. We just sat inside and played Uno the Brower way - match/pile on. I don't even bother playing, Devin's family has been playing this game as a family since they WERE a family and I'd just get clobbered.

We're so proud of him!

The other day, Devin jokingly wished out loud that someone made wife-beaters for kids. Little did he know, Hanes made them and I knew where to buy them.

Pair them up with Mat's favorite camo shorts and his Craftsman saw, and look...

Our own little redneck. I won't let Devin take him out in public dressed like this, much to his dismay. "He would be the coolest kid EVAR!!1!" Devin would insist. I wouldn't have any of it, so the 3-pack of hill-billy pride has been put on pajama duty.

:edit: after seeing these pictures, Aunt Lani reminded us about the dangers of saws, citing Grandpa Brower's missing digit as reference. Now Mathias is required to wear gloves and safety goggles as a precaution. Safety pumpkin, safety.

Delta for the Fourth of July

For the Fourth of July our family went to Delta to spend time with Brian, Stephanie, and Steph's parents. Normally we try to avoid Delta, but the annual Fourth
of July demolition derby keeps us coming back every year.

When we got to Delta, Stephanie's dad was putting a 1,700lb safe in his basement. After we had maneuvered it into the house, Brian and Devin ended up on the bottom end of the safe as they lowered it down the stairs. Steph's dad, Steve, had spent the last 24 hours devising a way to safely move the safe, and we were confident in his engineering setup to lower it. Never the less, they were still nervous that they'd end up as hamburger meat in the basement under the safe when it came barreling down the stairs. But obviously, everything went smoothly and the safe now resides in the basement.

Then we went to the Delta city festival. Umm, yeah. Right. After the whole ten minutes it took to see everything worth seeing, we headed back to Steph's parent's for a bbq.

The demolition derby started at six. For the last few years, the derby has been losing steam since the area is running out of suitable cars, but they still manage to put on a good show. At first, Mathias was a little scared of the loud exhausts and the sound of crunching metal, but it soon became background to him starting to explore his independence.

He would want to sit by himself on the steps, which were the perfect height for his little legs. But overall, Mathias was happy to be there out in the sun watching cars smash into each other.

At nine the fireworks commenced, "The Biggest Fireworks Show in Millard County." I guess that really can't be argued, since Delta is the biggest city in Millard county with two stop lights. Mathias was so scared that he screamed and hid his face in daddy's chest every time one would explode. After a couple minutes, he figured out that they were harmless (except for the two that started fires in a distant field) and watched in wonder.

Mathias enjoying the fireworks? Not so much.

Much better.

It was a great day to relax, get away from work, and enjoy people-watching at Delta.
